SF에도 조예가 깊은 난바 히로유키(難波弘之)는 닛타 이치로(新田一郎)와 함께 OVA 달로스(ダロス / DALLOS, 1983)의 음악을 만들었다. 그의 82년작 비행선 몰트호.
요즘은 흔히 접할 수 없는 Space Progressive Rock을 들을 수 있다.

새로운 곳으로 떠나는 우주선 몰트호 앞에 별빛이 쏟아진다.
정든 곳과의 이별에 마음이 아프지만
곧 광활한 우주의 바다에 다다라서는
침묵하는 우주의 적막에 길을 잃고 만다.
아직 아무도 가지 않았던 미지의 영역으로 한 발짝 내 딛는
몰트호는 여전히 알 수 없는 대우주를 항해 중...
이라는 느낌의 곡~

짐 헨슨(Jim Henson)과 프랭크 오즈(Frank Oz) 감독의 1982년작 다크 크리스탈 (The Dark Crystal)
전자제어로 인형을 조종하는 최초의 Animatronics 작품이라고 한다.
이 작품에는 지구인없이 모두 외계종족이 등장함에 따라
여러 외계종족 프로토 타입을 제작하였는데
때마침 지나가던 스타워즈 담당자가 '어~저거슨...' 하면서
맛스타 '요다'님을 길거리 캐스팅발굴 했다던가..뭐래던가..

스타워즈 요다선생 역의 프랭크 오즈님이 참깨거리(Sesame Street)에서 쿠키 몬스터였었고,
(어쩐지 요다선생과 쿠키몬스터의 톤이 비슷했는데~ 특히 '음~~~' 하는 부분)
짐 헨슨님은 커밋 더 개구리~~

기존 기술은 저비용, 고효율이라는 명목으로 새로운 기술에 밀려 잊혀져 간다.
그렇다고 사라진 건 아니다.
LP나 오디오 테입을 지금도 잘 만 듣고 있지만 디지틀 사운드 파일보다는 불편해졌다.
환경이 바뀌어서 그런 것이리라 생각하지만
복고라 불리는 다시 찾는 옛 기술은 단지 향수, 그리움? 때문만은 아니다.
과정에서 아날로그 특유의 재미를 주었고, 거기서 가치를 느끼기 때문이다.
파일 하나 클릭(터치)해서 듣는 스피디한 감동과
바늘 확인하고, 판 딱고, 회전수 바꾸고 조심스레 LP에 올려놓는 바늘에서
흘러나오는 그 간의 노력?과 그 과정의 감동과는
본질적인 차이가 있는 것이 아닐까.

요즘의 화려한 그래픽과 비교하면 다소 유치해 보일 수도 있지만
여러사람들의 협업과 현장의 노력이 바로 드러나는 기술이 인형극이다.
팔 하나, 다리 하나, 입의 움직임, 시선 처리, 목소리 등을
일일이 사람손으로 해야하는 고되고 치열한 삶. 그 과정의 산물이다.
요즘 CG에 밀려 점점 잊혀져가고 있는 인형극의 끝을 부여잡고~
다음 세대에는 저런 멋진 기술이 있었나? 하고 잊혀지지는 않을런지...
지금 우리가 쓰고 있는 기술도 담 세대에는 잊혀지겠지...
(은하제국 1000년의 암흑기가 생각난다...)

특이한 곡조라 가끔 머릿속을 맴도는 음악인데,
1985년에 녹음된 테이프에서 찾아보았다.
30년도 넘었지만 아직은 잘 나온다. (잘하면 죽기전까지는 듣겠는걸... )
오디오테입의 수명! 어디까지 인가?
그리고 과연 테이프 리핑! 필요한가?... 에 대한 건 담에 논하기로 하고..

일본/이태리 합작 에로영화 '창밖에 로마가 보인다' (窓からローマが見える, Roma Dalla Finesta, 1982)의 OST를 Paul Mauriat가 만든 것. (나중에 Paul이 영화보고 뷁~했다는... 전설이..)
사실 영화보다는 음악이 잘 알려진 경우임. ('창밖에 잠수교가 보인다(1985)'가 떠 오르는 건 그냥 기분 탓~)

팝 역사상 이토록 거대한 쓰나미는 없었다.

Quincy의 아득/야릇한 판타지스런 멜로디와 Michael 목소리의 조화는 "소름"이 돋는다.

또 하나의 The Lady in my life는 1985년 양손주법(two-handed tapping)의 기타리스트 Stanley Jordan 버전인데,
퀸시의 감수성이 묻어나면서도 스탠리 조던의 고급진 테크닉이 조화를 이룬 멋진 Jazz곡이다.
88년에 이 곡을 듣고는 훅~ 갔었다.

QE2 (Queen Elizabeth 2)앨범 뿐만 아니라 전 앨범중 가장 기억에 남는 Taurus(황소자리) I은 만돌린(mandolin)의 신비롭고도 애듯한 소리로 시작하여 장중하게 끝맺음하는 아름다운 곡으로 3부작중 Taurus I은 QE2(1980) 앨범에, Taurus II는 Five Miles Out (1982)앨범에, 마지막 Taurus III는 Crises (1983) 앨범에 각각 수록되어 있다.
1985년도로 기억된다. 포터블 카세트를 구입한지 얼마되지 않았을때 .. 레뒤오에서 이 곡을 소개 해 주었다.. 막 새로운 집으로 이사한 뒤라 어수선하였고 정신없는 가운데 어스름한 저녁 무렵 신비로운 이 한 곡을 들으며 창밖으로 반짝반짝 반짝이던 도시의 불빛을 물끄러미 바라보던게 생각난다. 모든게 새롭게 시작할때 들었던 곡이라 오래 남는지도 모르겠지만..

알라딘과 마법의 램프 Aladdin And The Wonderful Lamp (アラジンと魔法のランプ) (1982)

한국에서는 1982-10-01, 09:00 KBS2TV에서 추석 특집 만화로 방송하였다.
그때는 「고다이고」의 원본 주제가인 「마법의 등불」 번안하여 「이정선」님이 기타와 노래를 불러주셨다.

그리고 작품의 스토리, 작화, 음악등 당시로서는 엄청난 퀄리티에 깜짝 놀랐었다. (신밧드의 모험은 저리가라~)

멋진 엔딩으로 오랫동안 기억에 남아 있어서 생각 날때마다 찾곤 했었다.
마술램프를 상자에 넣고 그 상자의 열쇠를 창밖 멀리 던지면 그 열쇠가 반짝~하면서 멀어지는.. 엔딩.
이전 애니에서는 보지 못한 시적 표현과 상상력들이 들어있었다.

세월이 흘러~ 찾다가 지치면 담에 생각날때 또 찾아보고~
그렇게 해가 가고 달이 가고 해서~
어느날! 28년만에 다시 이 애니와 접하는 순간 만감이 교차했다. T_T

다시 들어보니 (그 때 그 이정선님의 노래는 아니지만 그 리듬은 비슷했으니까...)
이정선님 버전이 훨씬 더 멋있었다.
이정선님은 이 노래를 기억하실까?
언젠가 만나게 된다면 한번 여쭤보고 싶다.
또 20여년을 기다리는 건 아닐런지~

아래 이정선님의 버전으로 들어본다.
방송나올때 바로 녹음하여서 음질이 만족스럽진 못하지만
여태껏 이 노래에 대해 인터넷을 통해 들어보지 못했고,
이정선님이 공개하지도 않았기에 귀한 자료라 생각된다.

이 장면에서 데커드는 또 다른 레플리컨트인 레이첼이 도망중이라는 걸 알게 되고..
우연히 그 자리에서 도망치는 레이첼을 발견하게 된다.
