무서웠을 것이다. 두려웠을 것이다. 발 밑에 아무것도 없는 공간에 있다는 것은.

1973년 모스크바-카시오페아 Moscow-Cassiopeia (Москва - Кассиопея[Moskva - Kassiopeya])에서 붉은광장에서 경례하고 로켓 발사 장면에서 나온다.
1974년 우주의 아이들 Teens in the Universe (Отроки во вселенной[Otroki vo vselennoy])에서 우주선 탑승자들이 부른 곡이다.

짐 헨슨(Jim Henson)과 프랭크 오즈(Frank Oz) 감독의 1982년작 다크 크리스탈 (The Dark Crystal)
전자제어로 인형을 조종하는 최초의 Animatronics 작품이라고 한다.
이 작품에는 지구인없이 모두 외계종족이 등장함에 따라
여러 외계종족 프로토 타입을 제작하였는데
때마침 지나가던 스타워즈 담당자가 '어~저거슨...' 하면서
맛스타 '요다'님을 길거리 캐스팅발굴 했다던가..뭐래던가..

스타워즈 요다선생 역의 프랭크 오즈님이 참깨거리(Sesame Street)에서 쿠키 몬스터였었고,
(어쩐지 요다선생과 쿠키몬스터의 톤이 비슷했는데~ 특히 '음~~~' 하는 부분)
짐 헨슨님은 커밋 더 개구리~~

기존 기술은 저비용, 고효율이라는 명목으로 새로운 기술에 밀려 잊혀져 간다.
그렇다고 사라진 건 아니다.
LP나 오디오 테입을 지금도 잘 만 듣고 있지만 디지틀 사운드 파일보다는 불편해졌다.
환경이 바뀌어서 그런 것이리라 생각하지만
복고라 불리는 다시 찾는 옛 기술은 단지 향수, 그리움? 때문만은 아니다.
과정에서 아날로그 특유의 재미를 주었고, 거기서 가치를 느끼기 때문이다.
파일 하나 클릭(터치)해서 듣는 스피디한 감동과
바늘 확인하고, 판 딱고, 회전수 바꾸고 조심스레 LP에 올려놓는 바늘에서
흘러나오는 그 간의 노력?과 그 과정의 감동과는
본질적인 차이가 있는 것이 아닐까.

요즘의 화려한 그래픽과 비교하면 다소 유치해 보일 수도 있지만
여러사람들의 협업과 현장의 노력이 바로 드러나는 기술이 인형극이다.
팔 하나, 다리 하나, 입의 움직임, 시선 처리, 목소리 등을
일일이 사람손으로 해야하는 고되고 치열한 삶. 그 과정의 산물이다.
요즘 CG에 밀려 점점 잊혀져가고 있는 인형극의 끝을 부여잡고~
다음 세대에는 저런 멋진 기술이 있었나? 하고 잊혀지지는 않을런지...
지금 우리가 쓰고 있는 기술도 담 세대에는 잊혀지겠지...
(은하제국 1000년의 암흑기가 생각난다...)

미타니 코키의 대공항2013 (三谷幸喜 大空港2013)

100분동안 한번의 컷도 없이 촬영한 드라마.
초기 방송국의 생방송 드라마에서나 있었다지만 그 당시에도 NG없이 하기엔 상당히 어려웠을 것이다. 이런 상황을 알고 나면 좀 더 긴장하면서 (그럴리는 없겠지만~) 실수할까봐 조마조마한 마음으로 (마치 연극보듯) 보게 된다.
논스톱이라는 하나의 무대를 만들기 위해 익숙하고 노련한 배우와 20kg 무게의 카메라의 촬영팀, 녹음팀 등 스텝들, 그리고 철저한 사전연습이 있었을 거라는 건 능히 짐작하고도 남을 것이다.
서로의 대사에 익숙해지면 긴장감이 떨어지기 때문에 촬영중 감독은 상대배우 몰래 대본을 살짝 바꾸었다..는 말이 인상깊었다 (코멘터리중에서).
잔잔한 피아노 곡이 곁들여져 서스펜스, 패닉, 다이나믹, 홈 코메디에서 오히려 편한 느낌을 받을 수 있었다.

올해가 다 가는 마당에 뭘 봤나 곰곰히 생각해보니
수많은 드라마가 나왔지만 단연코 이 드라마 "리갈하이"가 생각났다.
변호사라는 직업을 다시 한번 생각하게 한 작품이었다.
저런 변호사가 있을까 싶다.

리갈하이(リーガル・ハイ / Legal High) OP (2012-04)


후지TV에서 지난 4월에 방송한 리갈하이(リーガル・ハイ / Legal High)에서
단연코 9화의 마지막 이 5분이 압권이라 생각된다.
독백에 가까운 대사를 줄줄 내뿜는 솜씨가 여간 아니다.

변호사 코미카도(古美門)역의 사카이 마사토(堺 雅人)는 아츠히메(篤姫,NHK,2008)에서 쇼군(将軍) 도쿠가와 이에사다(徳川家定)역으로 인상적이었지만 이 드라마에서는 그저 그렇게 개그로 가나 싶었는데
이 한 장면으로 눈이 하트가 되어버렸다.
나하(那覇) 출신의 아라가키 유이(新垣 結衣) 때문에 계속 보긴했지만...

잠깐 배경을 덧붙이자면
마을 인근에 세워진 화학공장으로 인해 마을 지하수가 오염되고
주민들을 구슬리기 위해 사장 및 관계자가 나와서
직접 머리숙여 사과하고 선물을 주는 것으로 무마하려 하자
마을 노인들은 체념하고 이제 그만 만족하고 만다.
이 모습을 쭉 지켜 본 변호를 맡은 코미카도(古美門)는 쓴웃음을 한 번 짓고 일갈한다.

코미카도(古美門)변호사 : 보시라, 이들의 만족스러운 표정을 대게뷔페투어를 마치고 집으로 가는 버스 안 모습 그 자체일세. 잘 기억해두게 이게 이 나라의 담합이라 불리우는 문화의 뿌리깊은 모습이다. 인간은 오랜 세월을 길들여지게 되면 이처럼 진드기 같은 생물이 되는 거야. 스스로 느끼지도 못하다니 정말로 부럽군요. 바보취급당하는 것도 모른 채 무덤에 들어간다니 참으로 행복한 삶이네요. 처음에 말씀드렸다시피 당신들같은 비참한 노인들을 진절머리나게 싫어해서 말이죠.

노인들 : 웃어른을 공경하는 법도 모르는 건가? 우린 너보다 2배나 되는 세월을 살아왔어.

코미카도(古美門)변호사 : 저보다 배는 살아오시면서 본인들에 대해 잘 모르시는 것 같아서 가르쳐드리고 있는 겁니다. 아시겠습니까? 여러분은 국가로부터 버림받은 사람 기민(棄民)입니다. 국가가 발전하기 위해서는 연금을 갉아먹기만 하는 노인들은 가치가 없기 때문에 쓰레받기에 모아서 구석으로 몰아넣은 뒤 양갱을 먹이며 입다물게 하는 겁니다.
대기업에 기생하는 심성 착한 진드기 그게 바로 당신들이야! 그리고 지금 토지가 오염되고, 물이 오염되고, 질병에 시달려서 이 땅에서 더이상 살 수 없게 될 가능성도 있는데
그래도 상품권도 줬고, 성의도 유대감도 느꼈으니 감사한 일이네요, 정말로 아주 다행이군요. 이제 땅, 물도 다시 살아나겠죠 병도 치유될테죠 공장은 오염물질을 계속해서 흘려보내지만 분명 더이상 문제가 일어나지 않겠죠 왜냐하면 유대감이 있으니까!!

노인들 : 너같은 게 우리의 고통이 뭔지 알기나 해? 우리도 네가 말한 것쯤은 지긋지긋할 정도로 알고 있어
다들 억울하고 분해서 어쩌지 못하는 거야. 하지만 필사적으로 마음을 억누르고 납득하고자 하는 거라고...

코미카도(古美門)변호사 : 어째서죠? 어째서? 쓰레기취급 당하고 있다는 걸 알고 있으면서. 왜 납득하려고 하는 겁니까!

노인들 : 우리는 이미 늙은이들이야...

코미카도(古美門)변호사 : 늙은이라는게 뭐 어쨌는데요?

노인들 : 몸상태도 좋지 않은데 다들 애쓰며 살아왔다고~

코미카도(古美門)변호사 :
그래서 뭐 어쨌다는 거냐고!!!
그래서 돌봐주길 바라는 겁니까?
그래서 위로받고 싶으신 겁니까?
그래서 친절을 베풀어주면 바로 기뻐하는 겁니까?
조상님들에게 죄송스럽다거나 자자손손 후손들에게 부끄럽지도 않습니까?
아무도 책임지지 않고 보기싫은 건 보지 않고 모두 사이좋게 살면 편할테죠.
하지만 만약! 자랑스런 삶을 되찾고 싶은 거라면 보고싶지 않은 현실도 직시해야만 합니다.
깊은 상처를 입게 될 각오를 갖고 앞으로 나아가야 합니다 투쟁이라는게 그런 겁니다!
푸념을 할 생각이면 무덤에서나 하란 말입니다!
돈이 전부가 아니라고요? 돈이 전부입니다 당신들이 상대에게 화살 한 발로 의지를 보여줄 방법은 빼앗긴 것과 짓밟힌 존엄함에 합당한 대가를 쟁취하는 것 밖에 없습니다!

...그럴 거라고 기대했던 제가 바보였습니다. 아시겠습니까?
다시는 노후를 보내는 심심풀이에 저를 엮이게 하지 말아주셨으면 하군요
심성 착한 진드기끼리 서로 상처를 핥아가면서 온화하고 건강하게 아무쪼록 그렇게 생을 마감하시죠

하야부사 (はやぶさ / Hayabusa) (2011)

귀환탐사선중 가장 멀리 갔다온 일본 최초의 소행성 탐사선 하야부사(隼, はやぶさ, 機名:MUSES-C)는
2003년 5월 9일 발사하여 지구와 화성사이를 공전하는 코엑스 1.5배 정도 크기의 소행성 '25143 이토카와' (イトカワ / Itokawa, 1998SF36)에 2005년 9월 도착. 샘플을 채취하고 우여곡절 끝에 2010년 6월 13일 샘플은 캡슐에 담아 지구로 보내고 무사히 임무를 마친 하야부사는 지구 대기권에서 장렬히 산화하였다.
원격탐사, 이온엔진 등등의 테크놀로지에 대한 얘기도 있지만서도

무엇보다도 이 7세 아이, 하야부사와의 교감을 통한 메세지가 소중한게 아닐까...
그 메세지가 다음 세대에도 우주로의 강렬한 열망이 표출되지 않을까...
나로호 3차발사가 2012년 10월로 예정되었다는 소식을 들었다.
나로호는 성공여부를 떠나 어떤 메세지를 다음세대에게 전해줄 것인가?
2014년에는 하야부사2가 발사될 예정이다.

실패란 없다. 성과가 있을 뿐...이란 대사가 생각난다.
