전자인간 오토맨 Automan (1983)

추억의 드라마 오토맨. 82년에 개봉된 컴퓨터 관련 영화인 Tron에 영향을 받아 제작되었고 Glen A. Larson과 Stu Phillips 조합이다. AI를 실체화 하기 위해 홀로그램으로 만든 것은 컴퓨터 내부에서 허덕이는 Tron에 비해 진일보했다 볼 수 있다. 그 후 비슷한 느낌의 Max Headroom (컴퓨터인간 맥스, 1987)에서는 AI를 Network에 흘려보내 소통한다는 점에서 이전보다는 훨씬 자유롭게 사회적 이슈를 만드는데 성공한 것 같다.

국내에선 1985년 4월 13일 토 오후 9시30분 MBC 주말의 명화에서 첫 선을 보였고, 5월 3일 토 오후 3~4시경에 편성되었지만 그 후 금요일로 옮기기도 하고 시간대도 둘쑥날쑥한 땜방식(?) 편성이 강해서 맘 먹고 볼려면 힘들었다.

그 무렵 컴퓨터 학원들이 우후죽순으로 생겨났고 Apple II 호환기종이나 MSX 등으로 나름 컴퓨터 교육이 붐을 이루고 있을때라 '커서'를 막(?) 다루는 주인공에 매력을 느끼기도 했었다. GUI환경이 일반화된 지금은 마우스 포인트를 커서라 부르는데 당시 콘솔 텍스트 환경에서는 사용자의 키보드 명령 입력을 기다리는 초록색 깜박이는 표시를 '커서'라 불렀다. 요 '커서'녀석을 막 다루는게 매력이기도... 흠..생각해보니 '커서'가 반짝이는 물체가 되어 날아다니기도 했고 자동차나 헬기를 만들어 주기도 했던듯... 단점은 전기!

Roddy의 영화라해도 과언이 아닌 행성탈출(The Planet of Apes) 시리즈 중 1편, 3편의 코넬리우스(Cornelius)와 4편, 5편에서 인상깊은 연설의 시저(Caesar)역을 맡으셨다.
Rise of the Planet of Apes (2011)의 시저보다는 그 옛날 72년 시저가 좀 더 멋있다.
